Why didn’t Jesus want the limelight?
Reading through Mark wrecked me. Have you ever wondered why Jesus would heal someone and then forbid them from telling anyone about it? Happens a bit in Mark. It never made sense to me and I’m not saying I’ve figured it out but I have a theory... there’s a common thread in Mark that I never saw before but it seems, and I propose that perhaps, Jesus didn’t want to be known as the “miracle guy” but desired to simply be known.
Crowds gathered for what He could do yet only a handful actually knew Him.
It’s a long shot, I know... but if I’m right, I don’t think we’re that different to the crowds, hey? Like when was the last time we approached Jesus with no agenda, no request, no list? when was the last time we came before Him or prayed cos we wanted to say ‘hi’ or ‘thank you’? When was the last time we actually worshipped in song singing TO Him, not just about Him or singing about worshipping Him?
I’m back at the drawing board in the process of finishing a song - a snapshot audio is below and it features at the end of the poem I wrote (cos sometimes song writing is too structured and limiting when you just wanna put thoughts on paper). This poems the first I’ve written since grade 10 lol and it’s no award winning piece nor was it meant to be shared lol but in being reminded myself, I’m hoping its a gentle nudge for someone to refocus from what they need/want from Him or what they’re doing for Him to lift their eyes to see & know Him.
Disclaimer: Jesus is NOT insecure and I’m not saying we should stop praying for healing etc. it’s so important we partner with Heaven in seeing God’s promise for us fulfilled.
I just wonder if ALL that we need and desire can actually be found in knowing HIM.
Getting to know someone well builds within us a sense of trust and that trust helps us relax in that person’s presence. Is there someone you know who when they’re in the room, all is right with the world? Why? Because they’re a safe place? Because you KNOW them? So if Jesus is healing, if He is peace, if He is love, it would make sense to KNOW the person of Jesus, right? Because the power, the answers, the things don’t sustain us, it’s Him. Only Him.
